What does Greenville City Council do?
The Greenville City Council makes decisions on neighborhood planning and affordable housing, economic development, recreation, open space and environmental sustainability, public safety and community engagement, and mobility. They adopt ordinances, set budgets, and oversee city departments to carry out these priorities.
Where and when does the City Council meet?
The Council meets on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month. A Work Session begins at 3:30 PM, followed by the Formal Meeting at 5:30 PM. Meetings are held in Council Chambers on the 10th floor of City Hall at 206 S Main St, Greenville, SC 29601.
How will I know what the Council is discussing that day?
Each Friday at 4 PM before a meeting, the finalized agenda is posted online at here. Select “City Council” and the meeting date to download the PDF, which lists the order of events, agenda item numbers and titles, and any attachments.
I’d like to address the Council. Where do I sign up, and what should I expect?
To speak, contact the City Clerk by 12:00 PM on the day of the meeting (call 864-467-4441 or email cpitman@greenvillesc.gov) with your name and the agenda item. Your name will be added to the sign-in list; speakers are called one at a time and have up to three minutes each. Be sure to arrive early and have your remarks prepared.
Where can I park?
Use any downtown public garage (for example, the Richardson Street Garage). The first two hours are free; after that it’s $0.75 per hour. For a full map of garages and surface lots, go to visitgreenvillesc.com → Travel Info → Downtown Parking.
I can’t make it to the meeting. Can I watch online?
Yes! All meetings are streamed live and archived on the city’s Granicus portal, and recordings are available on the City Council YouTube playlist. Just follow the links from the City Council page on connections.greenvillesc.gov.
